I love the second one - the colors are so vibrant. I know nothing about the backlighting - sorry!

I love his expression in both shots - so fun! As for backlighting, I'm no expert, but my photog. prof. said the ideal pose for back lighting (if you want a sillouette effect) is an exact side profile of the face. Otherwise it just looks like an exposure mistake (his words). If you aren't going for a sillouette (spelling??), then maybe a fill-flash would work. I'm still learning about fill-flash, so no helpful hints there.
Sorry about the novel. I love your photography - hope you find the info your'e looking for!!

I love Backlighthing and learning it right now, my post in my daily capture today is backlighthing, this i try to remember:
Meter the subject, step back and shot 1 or 2 SS down. I do not look at the histogram on backlighting since it will tell me that its overexposed. Just check out my pictures if you think I did well for my first time.
Wonderful pictures, its hard to take pictures of a moving subject and looks like it that your DS is very active. TFS =)

I like the color one. The first one looks a little blown out. I would like to try backlighting too-but I just can't get it right.

Hey Cherry!! I really like both of these shots--great composition in both of them. The first one does look a little blown at the window, but I think his face looks well exposed. (The one and only time I tried backlighting, my subject's face was too dark.) Anyway, I have never figured out the trick to it, so I couldn't really tell you how to avoid the blown parts.
Isn't this great, though?? I think I'm learning a little every day! :)
