Yup...-18 today and i went out to the grocery store tonight to buy some Dairy Queen (ice cream) for the kids (okay, and for me too =) ) and some of these for me....
I don't have a macro lens and i was trying to get pretty close to the flower. My lens just kept hunting. So i put it on the 'Macro' setting and didn't like how i couldn't control ss or f stop so i switched it back to manual, stepped back and got these. Does the green stem distract you in either of the photos? What do you think of the focus considering i didn't use any sort of 'Macro' help?
Cropped, ran Noiseware, resized for web and added border & watermark.
Settings for both photos:
Manual | ISO800 | SS1/20 | f3.5 | external bounce flash

Those are GORGECOUS!!!! I need to get some flowers this week. The color is incredible. I have no cc - other than these are awesome! I am in love ;)

These are beautiful, and the color is perfect. I don't find the stem distracting at all.

Beautiful... the stem doesn't distract me at all.

I like the first one better- maybe the angle, and the first appears to be sharper. The color is stunning. I din't notice the stem until I read your comment. Nice job!

Great job!! Your white background is really white, the detail is nice... overall EXCELLENT! I think I like the first one a little better--just like the way the flower looks in it.

Great shots, beautiful! I had to look for the stem, not distracting at all.

Both are really cute. The stem doesn't bother me at all. The first one is my favorite because of the composition of it.

Agree with everyone - these are great! I, too, like the first one better - based on composition. I always enjoy your photos!

I'm jumping on the "I like the first one better" band wagon, although they are both nice. I'm planning to do the same thing today, hopefully. I'm in Canada too and it isn't all that botanical in February! Nice shots!

Hi Cherry,
Love the pictures. The colors are so vibrant and beautiful. I also like the fact that you can see the stem, but just a hint. Great job.
Hey, thanks for always leaving a comment on my blog. I really do appreciate it!

When I use my Macro Lens I usually switch it from AF to MF otherwise, as you experienced, it just keeps hunting.

Wow, this is wonderful. The color is great and the petals come up nice and sharp, great work!

I prefer #1. The contrast and clarity is better. Love your use of the high key background...nice and white against the purple. Nice light too. This looks almost like it could have been done with a macro
